Shooting this photo was a part of a project that required Watson to photograph the most powerful people in the USA. X was due to show up at 9 a.m. for the 1-hour shoot. As Watson recalls, a person from PR told him X hates photographers’ minutes before he came.
In an effort to appease the business magnate, Watson shortened the shoot from an hour in length to just 20 minutes.
Treating it like a passport photo, he shot the portrait very simply against white.
He asked X to lean slightly forward and imagine being across the table with four or five people who didn’t agree with him, but he knew he was right. X thought it was easy – he did that every day. And in only 20 minutes, they had the shot.
